Redningsvæsenet med drift af kystredningsstationer især i langs Nørrejyllands vestkyst oprettedes 1852 på initiativ af C.B. Claudi og var underlagt skiftende ministerier indtil det 1973 afløstes af Kystredningstjenesten under Farvandsvæsenet, som 2012 nedlagdes og overførtes til Søværnet. [1]
Der er i dag 21 redningsstationer. [2] [3]
